We've reached the point in the course when installing the latest versions of the software tools onto your computer is essential to successfully use the example files. Be sure to install these updates now to avoid headaches as you work thru the examples and on your projects!

Installing LunchBox in Grasshopper in Rhino 8 for Windows

  • You should also download and install these extensions to Grasshopper:
    • Lunchbox for Grasshopper 
      • Open Rhino’s Package Manager using the Tools > Package Manager menu command.
      • Search for “LunchBox”
      • Install the latest version.

Can I install LunchBox in Rhino for Mac?

  • Unfortunately, the LunchBox package is incompatible with Rhino 8 for Mac.
  • If you want to use the LunchBox package nodes on your Mac, you have two options:
    • Option 1: Install Rhino 7 for Mac
      • You can download the Rhino 7 for Mac application here:
      • Then, request a full license from the teaching team.
      • Open Rhino’s Package Manager using the Tools > Package Manager menu command.
        • Search for “LunchBox”
        • Install the latest version.
    • Option 2: Use Rhino 8 for Windows in your Parallels virtual machine
      • Download and install the Rhino 8 for Window application.
      • You can use the same trial license that is associated with your Rhino3D account.
      • Open Rhino’s Package Manager using the Tools > Package Manager menu command.
        • Search for “LunchBox”
        • Install the latest version.

Supporting all of the software environments that we use today has gotten very challenging for small software developers. So, ProvingGround.io, the developers of the LunchBox package, have made some painful decisions about which platforms they can continue to support.
  • They’re focussing on all of their efforts on enhancments for Rhino 8 for Windows. So sadly, several of our other platforms are not actively being supported.
  • For Rhino for Mac, the lastest supported version is Rhino 7 for Mac.
  • For Dynamo, the latest supported version is Lunchbox 2018.7.7.

LunchBox is still a very valuable package of useful utilities. By in the rapidly changing world of computational design tools, we’re always living on the edge.
