How do you think design coordination was done before we started using digital models?

I think design coordination before was either done through a lot of back and forth in which someone would make a sketch of a model, send it to someone, and tweak the sketch. This process would occur many times on end because of the inability to edit things simultaneously. Additionally, without digital models i imagine that a lot of the creation/design process was done in person. Digital coordination therefore has the advantage of speeding things up and decreasing the amount of back and forth required as well as lowers the need for in person design brainstorm sessions.

At what point in the project development process should design coordination start?

Design coordination should start as soon as the architectures have a conceptual idea of what the building should look like so that they can immediately consult the construction team and get their opinion on if the building is feasible or not, and how exactly the building should be constructed. I would argue that coor

What strategies can design teams use to find and avoid clashes prior to the start of construction?

Teams can use live coordination features that BIM offers so that they get realtime updates of what other teams are doing so its more like a database rather than sending back and forth an individual file. This can significantly help with avoiding clashes and help with decreasing the amount of miscommunications. This similar to how Google Docs work in which all editors can see changes in real time.
