My vacation house features a simple two story design with a modern aesthetic. A primary objective of the design was to take advantage of the views downhill of the property; to accomplish this, an extruded roof helps to "funnel" expansive views into the building, and large floor to ceiling windows bring the attention to the outdoors. The upper level, containing the living room, dining room, and kitchen, has an open concept design which creates a feeling spaciousness, whereas the lower level is partitioned into private spaces and bathrooms for a feeling of safety and coziness. A garage shed is connected to the house the side door, which leads directly into the kitchen. A quiet study space on the lower level doubles as an atrium/guest room.
Dark materials were chosen for the exterior to offer a striking contrast to a snowy environment during the winter months.
