Design Journal Entry - Module 3

My shelter design is based on Bosjes Chapel in South Africa. It uses a curve based on points offset by certain height to create a curve through the offset points. After creating the loft surface and grid lines for placement of beam and panels, I used extrude solid to get the ribs. The whole structure is parametric, including the columns. When the height (z) and horizontal point placement (x and y) is changed the roof structure and corresponding column placement points update.

Here is a Dynamo and Revit screen shot.

  • The model can be flexed using the x, y and z points for the curve defining points and the degrees for the curves can be adjusted as well. the depth, width and number of the beams can be adjust via number slider. Columns automatically adapt based on the x,y and z axis that created the roof structure. Their radius can be adjusted using the number slider.
