Project Pitch: Dynamo Your Home
My proposed solution is a design tool that enables homebuilders to modify their home design parametrically and help them arrive at more informed decisions over design selection.
Intended users
Homeowners embarking on their initial homebuilding project who would like to understand the design implications of their decisions such as aesthetics of the home and construction economics.
Need you’re trying to provide a solution or support for
Very often, homeowners building their home for the first time have difficulties visualizing the impact of their design choices (e.g. building footprint, roof structure with or without overhangs). I would like to provide a design tool for homeowners to easily model a reference home using Dynamo. The design tool would generate a Revit model for a single-family dwelling that provides an overview of the look/feel of the home based on the chosen dimensions and also determine the estimated cost either based on total floor area or total material used.
Inputs (Tentative)
Variable: Building dimensions/shape, Number of Floors, Roof structure with or without overhang
Fixed: Cost input & Cost determination, Merging of different geometry shapes for final building form, Location of building site, Material Choice
Underlying logic of the model you’ll implement
The model would use inputs as desired by the homeowners, relating to the overall building footprint to generate a structural model for the home. Design inputs could be adjusted to vary the overall footprint for the building structure and the height/number of floors for the home. Based on the eventual Revit Model built, the model would be able to quantify metrics relating to total floor area and costs for the building
Outputs (Tentative)
Revit Model of home structure based on desired design inputs
Estimated Material Costs/Estimated Construction Costs based on design choices
