Creating Forms with Revit Conceptual Masses

Modeling Approach

Firstly, a Revit model was created using the Default template and the location was set to Dubai, UAE. I then linked the Burj Khalifa Area and set the scope box to the designated site location. For Part 1, I ended up using the Parametric Tower - Twisting Rounded Triangular Mass - Constant Taper and played with the already defined parameters and formulas. Accounting for the maximum height and site area, the shape was finalized. Then, I loaded the conceptual mass into my existing project (also could be loaded through insert, load family, and inserted as a component). An important note was to check the visibility for masses and to turn on and set the sun path. Another part of the process included arraying the elevations over the required height to account for any changes in the height parameter, but still accounting for the floors. These were attached by selecting the conceptual mass and checking all the floors in mass floors. Moving on to Dynamo, a single parameter was chosen to test building alternatives and report the required parameters. Using the modules and custom nodes, I used the BuildingForm.EvaluateSingleInput to test a range of height values while outputting gross floor area, surface area, and volume. Using the downloaded custom node, I modified the code to add the ability to output a third variable. Part 2 essentially followed the same process except the conceptual mass was made on our own.
