Wall Surfaces

  • Exterior wall surfaces currently rely on brick on metal stud layer. I selected this material due to:
    • Visual appeal of brick
    • Bricks are widely used and available, which has positive cost implications
    • Relatively high thermal resistance value (R value of 54.02 per Revit)
    • Relatively low heat transfer coefficient (0.0185 per Revit)
  • The characteristics described above are beneficial given Sao Paolo’s relatively warm climate.

Roof Surfaces

  • “Two part roof” relies on a flat portion combined with a north-facing sloped portion.
  • Solar PV will be pased on north-facing sloped portion to maximize onsite solar generation
  • Considering implementing green roof on flat portion

Openings / Glazed Surfaces

  • North facing wall relies entirely on curtain wall fitted with double glazing - 1/4 in thick / bluegreen low-E glass
  • The north-facing curtain walls represent most important opportunity for thermal efficiency of windows given disproportionate sun access
  • Non north-facing walls will rely on less efficient glass type to enable cost reductions
  • Roof features skylight with the same glass used on north facing walls - double glazing - 1/4 in thick / bluegreen low-E glass

Shading / Sun Control

  • North facing roof edge features 10’ overhang
  • Other roof edges feature 4’ overhangs
  • North facing curtain wall incorporates light shelves at each floor level
