What types of building information are best portrayed in 3D views?

  • Which stakeholders require 2D views, and why?

The constructors require 2D views because they need to make a plan for the actual construction. Delivering detailed dimensions and types of elements in 3D views is harder than in 2D views. Also, the constructors will make each story according to a construction sequence, so they need each story’s 2D plans.

Give examples of how the building information for a specific location in the project needs to be filtered for different audiences and purposes?

If I want to show the model to an owner, I will hide all unnecessary details, such as the specific dimensions of each object or tags on the objects. This is because the owner might want to scan the building’s facades or simple plans to intuitively figure out the general shape or plan of the building. On the other hand, for constructors, I need to provide detailed dimensions and tags of the objects because the information would help them to plan and schedule the construction process and prepare the procurement beforehand.

Should your design ideas always be conveyed through photorealistic renders?

  • How does the level of detail in the rendering and its presentation affect the perception of stakeholders reviewing your design?

I believe high-quality photorealistic renders are essential to convey design ideas to the stakeholders because it is intuitive and easy to understand the concept or purpose of the buildings, even for people unfamiliar with construction plans. Also, without rendering, it is hard to imagine the texture or feeling of the building projects.

Name some applications where viewing the building and model information in virtual reality or augmented reality would be most beneficial?

  • Are there advantages to using a C.A.V.E as a virtual environment versus VR headsets?

How can schedule views be used to assist with procurement and model-based estimating?
