Description

The structure for the TwitBook HQ is comprised of round concrete columns with rectangular concrete girders and joists for the framing. Due to the large areas of glass curtain wall, concrete for the structure was chosen to provide thermal mass in order to absorb the heat energy from the solar gain and slowly radiate that back to the space when the temperature drops, allowing for a passive way to control indoor temperature. Since the columns will be visible, round concrete was chosen in order to align with the circular design of the whole building, while rectangular girders and joists were chosen in order to keep the above ceiling space orderly for the MEP systems. This framing system allows for light to still penetrate into the space, while enabling the potential for a low-energy and low-carbon design strategy for TwitBook to meet its sustainability ambitions.
