A few challenges that I encountered was that when I was first placing the supply registers, they were only showing for Level 1. I soon realized that I needed to create an RCP for Level 0. Once I did this, then I was able to start placing my registers. Another challenge I faced was that I originally had my registers set at 9’0, but when I started connecting my ductwork, everything was moving up to the second level. When I moved the registers down the 8’0, I was able to get the duct work to fit within the ceiling space. I didn’t work to closely with the structural model but I know it will be a challenge when I’m working with my project is making sure that the ductwork doesn’t clash with my structural framing, so I will need to keep an eye out for that.

For aesthetic purposes I would definitely place a ceiling to cover both the structural framing and the MEP systems as I don’t think they are the prettiest to look at. Working closely with the architect on my last construction project, his biggest qualm was getting the highest ceiling height as possible so I know that is a big sticking point when it comes to designers, so I would push to get the biggest ceiling height as possible. With the 12’ elevation, and the structural beams, I would think we could get around a 9’ ceiling depending on the duct sizing that I have selected.

I believe that my proposed design meet’s the project’s spatial design goals. I think I could even raise the duct a little bit higher if it was needed so we could gain further ceiling height. Some recommendations I would make would be to raise the cooling air set points and raise the heating set point as 70 degrees seems a bit much for the heating to kick on. I think we can definitely lower the occupancy loads in a few of the meeting spaces as they seem a bit excessive as well, a few of the meeting rooms have around 30 people for the space.
