Embedded Carbon: I would like to create a tool that allows for engineers to create a standard concrete building in Revit while dynamically changing design inputs to let the designer know how much embedded carbon the building has along with other structural outputs.
Intended users
The intended users will mostly be design structural engineers who are creating standard concrete building.
Need you’re trying to provide a solution or support for
The SEI 2050 (Structural Engineering Institute) goal is to reduce carbon emissions caused by the structural building materials by 2050. To reach this goal designers need to know how much embedded carbon their buildings have. This tool aims to allow for designers to create a standard concrete building in Revit using the tool. The tool will also provide structural outputs so structural engineers can see the effect of have a more sustainable concrete mix on their building.
Inputs
-Concrete mix design
-Building X-Y dimensions
-First Floor Height
-Other Floors Height
-Number of Floors
-Material Prices
Underlying logic of the model you’ll implement
The above inputs will be used to create dynamo geometry. The columns as lines and the floor as a rectangle. These will then be placed into Revit once the correct sizes are determined. Dynamo will determine the required strength of the columns and how many based off the LRFD load combinations. The base shear and lateral drift will also be calculated. Next, the amount of materials needed, based on concrete volume, will be used to find the material cost. The construction time will be a factor of number of floors and amount of fly ash in the concrete since concrete will take longer to cure. Finally, all output values will be reported to the user.
Outputs
-Embedded Carbon
-Lateral drift
-Base Shear
-Material Cost
-Construction Time
