The African American Museum of History offered a truly immersive space that actually depicts the difficult history and resilience of Black Americans. Filled with artifacts, personal narratives, and descriptive storytelling, one is moved to experience and learn from our past. My favorite key feature is a giant reflective fountain that allowed me to thank my ancestors for allowing me to be in the position I am today, and continue to work so those after me can have a better life.
The Pearl Harbor Memorial is one of my earliest recollections of a piece of history that I could comprehend as it not only taught me about the attack, but immersed me in the exact space it took place. Being able to see oil still come out of the ship made me realize that event was only two generations away from me and made me grateful yet sorrowful for my life and the loss of those during the tragedy.
