My glulam beams for the practice exercise were 5”x11”, so the ducts should be placed at 11’1” (I’ll round down to 11’, center placement at 10’6”) to fit in the model while not interfering with the structural beams. I mainly routed my supply diffusers near the windows to account for the thermal loss/ thermal weak zones windows are. I was aiming to minimize the visual appearance of the hvac system because I wanted to maintain the focus on the structural glulam beams. This method may be better achieved through radiant systems versus the air ones we have here. I tried to get the ducts to mainly be on the perimeters and mostly straight to minimize friction losses. I also kept most of the ducts to be 24”x12” to minimize noise.

I think currently the size of the hvac is too large to meet my aesthetic design goals. Going for a radiant system will minimize the amount of ducts needed as well as be more sustainable due to the efficiency of water as a medium.
