HVAC Design

I started HVAC design process by analyzing the schedule of the supply air flow. It turned out that cafe area required the highest supply air flow since it was considering 89 occupants. I felt like this number of people would be too high for this building and it would be reasonable to change it to 30-40 occupants. After schedule investigation, I placed air supply terminals (500 CFM/100 CFM) depending on the space requirements and return air terminals. I also placed two sets of ducts (supply and return air) for each floor. I placed the ducts below the beams (10’ 4’’) and terminals at 9’. It was difficult to properly connect the terminals to the ducts especially when the space was limited. I also noticed that using flex ducts somtimes resulted in their intersection with beams. I think my design meets the goals since I was able to keep high ceilings and open spaces. I think providing extra shading on the curtain wall would help reducing cooling loads in the building.
