  • A brief paragraph discussing:
    • any challenges that you encountered in this supply duct routing exercise
    • whether your proposed design meets the project’s spatial design goals
    • any recommendations to make the design more sustainable (and lower the heating and cooling loads)
    • A challenge I encountered is that the beam size designed in last module was too tall and the beams were overlay with the HVAC system I designed in this module. Considering that conventional roof height is 8 ft, I design the HVAC system to a height no lower than 8.5 ft. So in this case, I went back to my structural design and updated the beams to have smaller height and compares the two models again. The updated version shows a clear division of the beams systems and HVAC systems. Another challenge is that I often forgot to check the height of the elements before placing them, resulting a lot of fixing work. I’ll try to remember myself to check the location of the elements when doing my building design.

Overall, I think my design meets the project spatial design goals, providing enough air supply to each of the spaces assign through the zone connections. I made changes to the flowrate of the diffusers for them to better align with the need of the spaces and avoid too much overflow. I’ve also adjusted the sizes of the ducts to decay from the mechanical to the end of the distributing systems. I think bringing natural air through windows and applying some shading elements can help the design to be more sustainable.
