Can you guarantee that the completed building will match the performance predicted by the analysis in its day-to-day operations?
- Why or why not?
Th performance predicted by the analysis is not guaranteed. The predictions only give a “suggestion type” analysis for designers and clients to consider when planning their buildings. But after the building is completed, other realistic factors will come and play an important role when rating the performance of the building. For example, the operation time is longer than previous assigned, the weather also influences the energy costs, etc.
What level of detail should be included in a 4D simulation?
- Should you include all of the elements in the building model?
I think 4D simulation should demonstrate the construction activities and help clients to visualize the workflow and the appearance of the building. It is better to include only the structural model of the building and perhaps exterior walls. For the interior design and decorations (furniture, plumbing systems, etc), it is unnecessary.
How can model-based quantity takeoff improve the design process?
How can designers improve their designs using the information provided by preliminary estimates of the cost of building their design ideas?
If the total costs for certain parts of the building is too high, they could consider replacing it with a more affordable material.
