  • I have chosen a mass timber building. I am using high R value exterior wood for my outside walls. Save for the top roof (where the solar panels will go), the other roofs/terraces are green roofs. Each of these roof's overhangs to provide shading from the summer sun while letting in the winter sun. The south facade of the arms has large windows to capture the strong south sun. The first floor of the chest of the south facade is where the greenhouse will be. The rest of the floor above it have an atrium in its place, allowing for sunlight to stream in and to ensure that the greenhouse is receiving max possible sunlight. The atrium will also serve as a social dynamizer. The interior of the arms on the first floor have curtain walls that will act like garages, bringing the exhibition rooms into the garden. The West and East facades have smaller, higher placed windows. The North facade is the street facing facade, it will have four layers of curtain walls and smaller windows placed strategically in the staircases and individual office spaces on the top floor.

  • Without any adjustments to the energy model, the EUI is 112. However, once the range of values is narrowed to Bim values or better, this number drops to 58.1. This value is fairly good, however, by adjusting for the best values, the value can drop all the way to 23. The biggest factor in this reduction is the HVAC system. Using a heat pump drops the EUI significantly. This is something to think about when designing the HVAC system. Using 20.4% efficient panels for PVs, having a 30 year limit, and having 90% surface coverage also contributes significantly to the EUI decrease.
