My strategy was to provide adequate structural support while not compromising the architectural design’s open layout. Using steel members can best accomplish this goal because there are larger spans that can be covered with less material. When creating my grid, I prioritized providing supports along load bearing walls and the perimeters of circulation openings. However, upon seeing the interior of the combined architectural-structural model, it seems I fell short of accomplishing my goal because the flow has been congested by the steel members. Potential ways of improvement are reducing extraneous steel columns or converting steel columns to wood in order to better fit the architectural facades.
