- Avoid having columns in the middle of open spaces
- Use bays with maximum beam lengths of 30-32 feet and girder lengths of maximum 26-28 feet
- the material and framing system selected
- Structural Steel (ASTM A992) because of the large spans
- wood is also an option
- reinf. concrete could also work if using prestressed concrete for larger spans
- need to keep the number of these larger spans minimal to avoid large costs (expensive to have these many prestressed beams)
