  • your overall strategy and the features of the structural system
    • Avoid having columns in the middle of open spaces
    • Use bays with maximum beam lengths of 30-32 feet and girder lengths of maximum 26-28 feet
  • the material and framing system selected
    • Structural Steel (ASTM A992) because of the large spans
      • wood is also an option
      • reinf. concrete could also work if using prestressed concrete for larger spans
        • need to keep the number of these larger spans minimal to avoid large costs (expensive to have these many prestressed beams)
  • the locations of structural columns and major framing elements
    • See above
  • any special structural challenges
    • The curved facade at the back of the building
    • Cantilever beams for the slanted wall (max length 15 feet)
