In this exercise, my biggest challenge was aligning duct elevations across floors while keeping the space open and efficient. Running return ducts centrally (via the air handler’s middle slots) and supply ducts along the outer walls could reduce material use. My compact design navigated obstacles like stairways and atriums, and it meets the designer’s intent for open spaces. To enhance sustainability and lower heating/cooling loads, I recommend considering radiant heating/cooling, triple-pane/low-e windows, and high R-value materials.
