  • A brief paragraph discussing:
    • any challenges that you encountered in this supply duct routing exercise
    • whether your proposed design meets the project’s spatial design goals
    • any recommendations to make the design more sustainable (and lower the heating and cooling loads)

In completing this exercise, I definitely had some trouble with not only the vertical space of the building, but also the horizontal space. I wanted to run my main supply and return ducts on each floor through the hallway which severely limited my side to side space. To get around this, I wound up stacking return ducts underneath my supply ducts throughout the building.

My proposed design meets the CFM requirements for each room while splitting the HVAC systems into East and West sections utilizing appropriate supply and return diffusers in each room. To try and make this design more sustainable with reduced HVAC loads, I’d recommend high glaze glass in conjunction with shades or tinting to reduce the amount of heat radiation and conduction through the numerous windows in the building. Additionally, insulating walls can be used to further separate the building from the outside environment.
