  • A brief paragraph discussing:

The biggest challenge I had was figuring out how to connect the second-floor ducts to the first-floor mechanical room. It was also a little difficult to properly place the ducts beneath the structural elements.

I wanted to maintain the most amount of open floor space, with this in mind, I kept most of the ducts close to the walls and corridors. I do not think the ducts are visually appealing, I would recommend potentially adding a drop ceiling to cover them.

From a sustainability standpoint and a passive design analysis, this building could use some alterations. For example, the South side is normally the preferred solar gain face. Designing with this in mind, large windows with overhangs are a good choice as the design allows for summer sun to be blocked while the winter sun is let in. They could add larger windows to this side. Meanwhile, East and West sides should focus on shading. Currently, the East side is almost entirely glass. This will cause lots of overheating and a large cooling load. I would recommend including vertical shading or placing natural shading elements like trees in front of this face to attempt to reduce that load.
