Design Journal Entry - Module 9

Your Design Journal entries for this module should highlight your design thinking and analysis results that influenced your decisions about:

  • your overall HVAC system strategy
    • My overall strategy was placing vertical air handling units in the storage closets on each floor. These connected into the ducts (located at 14’) which connected to the supply diffusers (11.5’) as my ceilings are at 12’
    • I am using the air handling unit for both heating and cooling in addition to my passive design strategies (triple pane glazing, thick insulation)
  • your heating strategy and how you implemented it in your design
    • heating coils in the air handling units
  • your cooling strategy and how you implemented it
    • cooling coils in the air handling units
  • any special HVAC system challenges that you encountered
    • I encountered quite a few issues during this stage. My floor 2 floor and ceiling views are not showing any of my HVAC elements, so I was required to model these from the 3d view which was quite challenging. I have spend hours troubleshooting this but have not found a solution. This is why the air handling unit is not connected on this floor and why some rooms are missing air diffusers as I was unable to go in and place them.
    • The actual flow in my space schedule was not updating so I was unable to adjust my air handling units to accurately reflect the flow. I plan to troubleshoot this issue and the one above to later go in and make the correct adjustments to accurately model heating and cooling needs.
    • I plan to troubleshoot these issues in later stages and ensure that the HVAC systems are accurately modelled.
  • Update 04/06 - I was able to remedy the floor 2 issue so this is now correct.
