Design Journal Entry - Module 9

Your Design Journal entries for this module should highlight your design thinking and analysis results that influenced your decisions about:

  • your overall HVAC system strategy
    • My HVAC system will be divided into different zones per the usage. The first floor is the diversified with conference room, cafe + kitchen, gift shops, storage, restrooms and a small exhibition space. The supply air flow is different each room. The rest of the building are relatively straightforward with a combination of exhibition space and restroom. I wanted the HVAC system to be located on the roof for a cleaner aesthetic.
  • The center atrium in the building would help regulate hot air during the summer time. One of my cooling feature is a green roof, so the floor underneath would use less energy to cool down the space when there are plantations and water pipes running.
  • My biggest challenge was initially setting up the duct placement within a circular space; I tried to keep it as simple and straightforward without bents as much as I can. When I add the return air duct, the plan seems to be too small and look messy.
