Design Journal Entry - Module 9

Your Design Journal entries for this module should highlight your design thinking and analysis results that influenced your decisions about:

your overall HVAC system strategy

The primary goal of my HVAC design was to ensure effective heating, cooling, and ventilation across various spaces while maintaining efficiency and balance in airflow distribution.

A centralized forced-air system with air handler located on the roof as well as strategically placed components to ensure the rapid temperature adjustment, lower initial cost, effective integration for ventilation and simplified system through combination of cooling and heat systems.

  • Air Terminals
  • Air Handlers

your heating strategy and how you implemented it in your design

Since the building is located in Brazil, it won’t need much heating due to the subtropical climate. Heating is provided by passive daylight open curtain wall.

your cooling strategy and how you implemented it

The HVAC system is mainly for cooling the building. Air terminals are set in 9’ from the floor to ensure the better cooling effect.

In addition to the mechanical cooling, the design incorporates wall roof and windows with good heat resistance to help minimize heat gain from the atmosphere.

Challenges

the main duct of air supply and return are not hidden in any rooms which might cause hurt/inconvenience
