Your Design Journal entries this week should highlight your design thinking and process in modeling:
I decided to model my power and lighting elements for my second floor, excluding restrooms/utilities/storage spaces. The three spaces I modeled are the secondary exhibition space, cafe, and main hallway/circulation area for terrace access.
- your power system elements
- I placed a 208V 400A MCB - Surface Lighting and Appliance Panelboard in my utilities room, which I used for all the circuits modeled
- I placed duplex receptacles on all walls approximately 12’ apart, so that from any point on the wall a receptacle is located within 6’.
- your lighting system elements
- I modeled four different lighting circuits:
- One for the hallway/circulation space, which uses both 2’x2’ and 2’x4’ 120V troffer lights to achieve the 25 fc average estimated illumination specified for the space type and two three-way lighting switches near the main exit by the elevator and exterior staircase and the door to the terrace on the opposite side.
- One for the cafe, which uses 2’x4’ 120V troffer lights and a single pole lighting switch. Since the cafe is on the south-facing curtain wall, I wanted to keep this lighting circuit separate since the daylighting will probably for less use of artificial lighting in this space.
- Two for the exhibition space to allow for flexibility in lighting use:
- One for the inner exhibition space, which uses downlight - recessed can 8” incandescent 120V lights for more focused spotlighting on the exhibition pieces and a single pole lighting switch
- One for the outer exhibition space, which uses 2’x4’ 120V troffer lights for more multifunctional lighting and a single pole lighting switch
- Together, the inner and outer exhibition space lighting circuits achieve the 30 fc average estimated illumination specified for the space type.
