Overview

Replace this text with your reflections on your design journey through class from a higher level and share your insights about the entire experience. What were:

  • Key / Essential / Unique Design Features that you explored in your project.
    • My building relatively has less wall-to-window ratio since I don’t want the exhibition space to be exposed with sunlight for art work prevention purposes. But there’s a center atrium that penetrate all flour floors of the building, and provide sufficient skylight to each floor’s hallway. The green roof not only able to provide interactive space for the visitors, but also play as a major sustainable feature to reduce heat gain to the building as an additional layer of insulation. My site is located in New York, where there is discrete 4 season of weather difference. Having a versatile roof can accommodate the really hot and humid summer, but also provide enough insulation for the snowy winter.
  • Your Big Successes -- what worked very well and what features you're most proud to share as examples to inspire others.
    • I’m also glad that I was able to work out the building layout consider the building is circular and each room will have a curved wall. Each room propose needs to be carefully fit into the available area while logistically make sense with the user flow.
  • Your Big Challenges -- what aspects of the project created the biggest challenges and what would you do differently (in hindsight) to avoid or overcome these challenges.
    • It’s my first time using Revit, so i don’t know all the necessary shortcuts and commends. At the beginning, I would spend a lot of time navigating between the tool bar and the working canvas, and still select the wrong thing. Also, there were multiple times where I tried to follow along the tutorial but then it would show up differently on my screen instead.
    • The placement of HVAC pipes was quite challenging since my building shape is circular and often time I don’t have enough radius clearance to do pipe split and add air diffuser.
  • Lessons Learned -- what sage words of advice would you share with other students who are embarking on a similar project.
    • Perhaps I should have starts off the project with a simpler geometry considering I don’t have Revit modeling experience, and Revit by nature does not like curve that much.
    • Patient is the key when doing trail and error. Also do frequent save to prevent progress lost in case the software crash.
    • Go to office hour and check in session to seek help!! Those definitely helped me the most throughout the quarter.
