Your Recommendation for the “Best” Design Option

I went for the last design option for a variety of reasons. The starting concept for this building was two snake like buildings interacting with each other to create an exciting courtyard as well as highlight the surrounding environment, creating a path that ends at the iconic Ferry Building. Originally it was two solid buildings of the same height but this created an extremely dark inside from the shade of a neighboring building. To address that issue, I changed the form of the snakes, creating a more open courtyard with more light access. I also reduced the height of the snake most proximate to the towering building. By the third iteration, I wanted to address some red level wind tunneling occurring between the neighboring building and the left snake. I ended up breaking that building into two to allow for more flow. I also was not satisfied with the overall appeal of the forms, so I deciding to create a stair like structure. This was also an experiment on how the sun interacted with the forms. Overall, one of the three buildings struggles with sun hours but the other two perform beautifully. As a whole I believe the third design combines best performance and overall form.
