In my opinion it is possible to make any space a great exhibition space, all you need is the right people with a vision to spread joy and bring people together. One of my all time favorite exhibition spaces that I have ever visited is the IX art park in my hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia. This space would be nothing special without the people who have crafted it into one of the most prized possessions of our small town.
This art park offers an immersive art experience for people of all ages and has become a staple stop for tourists and residents of Charlottesville. I think the aspects of this space that creates the magic within it are that it is a big, blank space when it is bare. This means that every time the exhibition changes, artists are able to curate the exact experience they want viewers to have. It is constantly changing and shifting to the point that each time you enter it feels as though you are entering an entirely new venue. The designers of this project delivered a space perfectly fit for its purpose, to spread joy, magic, and art while bringing an entire town together.
This space has incredible murals and art installations outdoors as well as indoors. It is designed with artists and people of all walks of life to have a voice in how it looks. There is something new being installed or created in this space every single day and I have never experienced a more magical place in my life.
In short, I think that exhibition spaces that allow for creativity and change to occur within it are the greatest. These spaces are meant to showcase beautiful things and when those spaces do not limit the possibilities of the art that can be displayed within it is when the magic happens.
