I wanted to create a dynamic structure that could be used to protect a walkway from sun or bad weather. To do this, I began by arranging curves in three different places, and then creating ribs that connect at each curve to create a half-arch shape. Along these ribs I placed columns, and between the ribs I placed panels to make the structure weather-proof. After creating the initial form, I altered the curves I created at the beginning to follow a sin curve, creating a more dynamic undulating form which follows a wave at 3 points, creating a unique and visually interesting form. The structure can be flexed by altering its heigh at the front and/or back, its length, and its depth. You can also change the number of sin waves and their amplitude on each of the 3 curves separately. Finally, you can change the number of ribs as well as the number of panels. All of this flexibility allows for a very dynamic structure that could work in a number of scenarios, including as a walkway cover but also as a bus stop or pavilion.
