Key Findings from the Interview

  • How do they define the term "sustainability"?
  • My friend defines the term sustainability as the process of doing something that doesn't overuse resources. During this process, resources are refreshed, handled responsibly, and secure.

  • What aspect do they care most about sustainability?
  • She cares most about implementing sustainability in her community, mostly through climate activism. She believes that involving the community is the most important aspect when trying to build a sustainable environment.

  • What actions are they taking towards living a sustainable life?
  • She tries to buy fewer clothes and use her clothes to the fullest to reduce her waste. She also tries to be more energy efficient by turning more lights off and she's also being more conscious about how electricity is used in her house. She currently has a plant-based diet (she does not eat red meat) to reduce her carbon emissions.

  • How would they like to foster a more sustainable lifestyle in the future?
  • Though she currently stopped drinking cow milk and drinks plant-based milk instead, she wants to cut milk from her diet entirely. She also wants to go vegan completely, which is tough for her because she enjoys eating chicken and because of the costs of greens as well. She wants to invest in longer-term clothing that she'll use very often and very durable. She also wants to invest in digital note-taking instead of using paper to lead a more sustainable lifestyle long-term. She stated that her goals are to further the current actions she is taking right now.

  • What are their reservations or concerns about sustainability in today's society?
  • She thinks that money is a big factor in the sustainable paths that governments take. She is concerned about future decisions that will involve sustainability and making communities more sustainable. Additionally, she is concerned about people's mindsets regarding climate change and sustainability in today's society as well.
