Intended users
- Structural engineers, architects
Need you’re trying to provide a solution or support for
Modern architecture increasingly demands nonstandard roof geometries, driven by spatial needs, daylighting strategies, or aesthetic considerations. However, sloped and pitched roofs introduce complexity into structural design, particularly when choosing efficient and constructible truss systems. This project will allow structural designers and architects to compare and quickly visualize design options for sloped roof designs by combining the finite element tools available in Karamba3d with the intuitive visual parameterization interface of Grasshopper and Rhino.
Inputs
- Span
- Roof pitch
- Truss type
- Number of panels
- Loading conditions
Underlying logic of the model you’ll implement
My model will take in parametric inputs for the geometry of the roof truss, then construct it and present it visually within Rhino. I will then use the Karamba3D plugin to do the structural analysis of the final design.
Outputs
- Max deflection
- Member axial forces (will color members for compression vs tension)
- Total weight
- Efficiency ratio (strength/material use)
