For my structural system I opted for steel frame for both the structural columns and beams, specifically W12x26 beams and W12x40 columns. To accommodate the unique openings for staircase, elevators, atriums, etc. I have used an uncommon grid placement. I decided to use steel over wood due to its superior strength and durability which makes it an ideal choice for structures to withstand heavy loads. It is resistant to fire and moisture, and it is 100% recyclable if properly installed and disassembled. Though the initial cost is higher than wood, it makes up in long term maintenance and repair costs and is thereby the cost-effective choice overall.
