What types of building information are best portrayed in 3D views?

  • 3D views are great to see the overall design on a building and its aesthetics, but the 2D views are great for actually seeing the flow of the inside of the building. For example, it can be hard to get the right camera angles to see certain parts of the building interior, especially with the perspective of a person. The 2D floor plan provides an easy way for the client to view the layout of the building without trying to visualize or imagine anything in a 3D view. Furthermore, sections can provide the same kind of information that a 3D model won’t.

Should your design ideas always be conveyed through photorealistic renders?

  • Photorealistic renders are great for the client to see the visual appeal of their building, as well as see how it interacts with its surroundings. However, sometimes it is beneficial for renders to not be displayed in a photorealistic way. For instance, it is helpful to the construction team to not have a cluttered design, but to simply have a bare bones and easy to read plan for hwo to construct the building.

How can schedule views be used to assist with procurement and model-based estimating?

This is helpful because it lists everything out one by one, so that you don’t forget a single element. There may be some elements that are hidden from plain view, that the designer may forget when going over a project’s details. The schedule view lays everything out transparently so that nothing is forgotten.
