What types of building information are best portrayed in 3D views?

  • Which stakeholders require 2D views, and why?

The contractor would require 2D structural. architectural etc. plans in order to construct the building. Similarly, the personal responsible for lights, ventilation, plumbing etc. would all require 2D views as they better portray the layout of the construction. Probably, the facade as well as any other finishing elements are best portrayed in 3D views.

Give examples of how the building information for a specific location in the project needs to be filtered for different audiences and purposes?

The client would require mostly plain views with no dimensions of the layout of the building. For them it would be most important to see the final space they will be getting as well as any finishing elements. Contractors on the other hand would require more technical information containing dimensions, materials etc. as they are responsible for conducting the construction process.

Should your design ideas always be conveyed through photorealistic renders?

No. Some elements are better shown in 3D renders such as finishes, facade etc., whereas some elements such as technical equipment, a staircase, the frame, have no reasons to be shown in render views. They are not there to be pretty, but to provide some sort of utility to the building (support, accessibility etc.)
