Your Recommendation for the “Best” Design Option
Among the three options, I noticed that the two-part rectangular box design seemed to be the least effective. It does not optimize for sunlight, and the two-building design does not foster collaboration, so I ruled it out. The more complex polygonal design was cool and interesting visually, but there was no real rhyme or reason to the shape, so I felt it was unnecessary and unwarranted complication (no real reasoning for it), although I did note that the shape helped minimize the exterior surface area that received very little sunlight. The L-shaped design I thought was sleek/modern, and just interesting enough visually, especially when combined with curtain wall and metal facade. In order to help address the light problem, I employed curtain walls on the exterior facade to maximize the amount of sunlight that can actually pass through the building and reach the previously poorly lit side. The microclimate/temperature analysis did not really reveal and differentiated results among the three options, so I chose to focus on the difference in sunlight/hour analysis. For a modern look, I also chose a glazed roof framed by insulated metal deck.
