What are the primary goals of creating a building model? Who are the key stakeholders?

The primary need for the researchers is space to conduct lab experiments, store equipment, and collaborate with other workers. Above most they would prioritize safety of the persons and equipment during research and creating a space that helps them execute experiments in the most effective manner.

How much detail should you include in your building model? How do you decide?

As you develop your initial design of a model you should primarily include details that impact the function and program of the space. As you continue on your design process you can add details to improve efficiency, experience, and aesthetic.

Many door and window manufacturers provide Revit families for doors and windows that you can specify for your building design.

The advantage of providing these specifications for designers is to improve their comfort level with designing spaces with their products. By allowing free downloads of Revit families with their products, it helps both designers and clients imagine their product in use and makes them more likely to eventually order their product when the time comes to order materials to build to final product. Using manufacturer-provided families allows us as architects to become more familiar with the options available and be more cognizant of what details can amplify the space.
