What are the primary goals of creating a building model? Who are the key stakeholders?

The primary goal of creating a building model is to give the construction team a blue print. The stakeholders in this process are the construction workers and the person building the building. The goal is to lay out a easy to understand and descriptive model that the builders can follow without any question of where things go or what the architect wants.

How much detail should you include in your building model? How do you decide?

You should include as much detail as possible in the end. When you are first designing and just getting the walls up it is not so important becuase you are going to change things later down the road but the end model should be very detailed. The construction workers should be able to follow it with ease.

Many door and window manufacturers provide Revit families for doors and windows that you can specify for your building design.

The advantage of manufactures providing families is to make the model more realistic. If you just use the families revit provides it will not be as realistic to the real life. You want the model to be as close to reality as possible.
