The design of the extension part of the engineering common center building retains some of the original feature such as the use of the identical CMU drywalls as well as the generic elements such as doors and windows. What sets this structure apart from its parental building is the encouragement for more exposure to outdoors to motivate student morale after the entire day of hard-work. The first level of the extension building houses several more student collaboration center as well as the maker’s space. The second level is mainly for the cafeteria/restaurant which consists of indoor seating or outdoors seating where students can enjoy the view of the outside while savoring their food on the bench. The third level features the student gallery as well as the socializing zone. The roof of the extension building highlight the daring characteristic of a “butterfly” shape canopy, which demonstrates the forward-thinking of the engineering discipline.
