Option 1: Building Performance Analysis

https://insight.autodesk.com/OneEnergy/Model/551309

The goal is to create a building that is energized efficiently and effectively and uses renewable energy so that it can meet the 2030 deadline. The 10 design options I chose to focus on were potentially rotating the building between 45 and 180 degrees so that it's able to help reduce the heat on the west side while also maximizing the sunlight usage on the south ride for [passive heating and cooling. The windows on the south walls ideally would have 30 to 50 % coverage for a balanced light and temperature ratio, while the north walls will have 20% to 40% to minimize the heat loss ratio. Automatic shade on the south facing the windows will help manage sunlight and be able to reduce the issue of overheating. The triple pane glass option will help control heat transfer and improve the efficiency. The walls will have to use R20 insulated panels. And the roof will have R60 insulation to retain the heat when it gets colder throughout the year. TO limit the air leaks the building will be sealed to achieve the 0.17 mark air changes per hour making sure that there is minimal to no energy lost. Efficient lighting systems using 3.23 W/M 2 will cut the energy usage and keep the spaces cooler. On the roof high efficiency solar panels with 204% conversion rates will provide clean energy. These design choices work together well to lower the energy usage and incorporate the concepts of renewable energy sources effectively. I think that the next steps would include testing these designs with computer models such as the ones we use in this class and going back and fixing things as needed and making sure that the construction matches the plan that we have set in place.
