4D simulations are often used to show the construction sequence for an entire project, but shorter simulations that focus on a specific period of time are also useful.

Simulations that focus on just 1-2 weeks at a time can help the team get a short term view of the construction goals and what problems they may need to anticipate as they build in current weather and other environments. Additionally, this can help the construction team plan for which materials should arrive at the site at one time since storage will always be limited. Lastly, this can help plan for worker schedule’s since some parts of the construction will not need as many workers as others. All of these maintain a way to be more efficient in the construction process.

What level of detail should be included in a 4D simulation?

No not all element should be included in a 4D simulation otherwise it will become too overwhelming and time consuming for the project team to utilize. For example, if we created a task to complete every single weld in the building we would have an excess of tasks to manage. While these smaller tasks are still important they should be managed on another level for personal for an individual worker.

How can the feedback shown in a 4D simulation help you to optimize the project schedule?

It can show the project team visualization of the project so that they can assess critical paths and enhance the site development. Having a better understanding of the big picture goal can help us understand what needs to be done in the immediate future. Additionally, it can help with resource allocation whether that be of labor or equipment. Lastly, it can help assess risk so that injuries and damages don’t delay construction.
