What types of building information are best portrayed in 3D views?
Proportions and sizing (especially height) is best portrayed in 3D views. It is also very helpful to see where light will hit the building and what shadows will be cast. 3D views are also most helpful for customers to see the final product the way they will experience it. 2D views are helpful to see the floor plan and how the rooms will be arranged which is most important for construction, but also customers who are interested in the organization of the house.
Name some applications where viewing the building and model information in virtual reality or augmented reality would be most beneficial?
I think viewing a building in augmented reality would serve as an incredible selling strategy. This would allow prospective buyers from all over the world to be able to see and experience the space as if they were there in real life. Buyers could potentially have more confident making a decision about a house that they cannot visit or is not built yet. It may also serve beneficial to the people building the model to compare views and get a feel of the spacial proportions of the building.
How can schedule views be used to assist with procurement and model-based estimating?
Schedules serve as a tool to look at all doors, windows, and wall square footage for every type and material used in the model. Thus, with proper calculations schedules show users how much each component will cost and the amount of each they will need to buy to create the building as shown in the model. This will make it easy to create a bill of materials and essentially a shopping list.
