What are the principal advantages of using a single building information model of the existing conditions as the foundation for modeling proposed additions or renovations?

Using one model as the base for all updates keeps everything in sync and lets us see how the new additions fit with the existing building. It saves time since we don’t have to redraw parts that are already there, and we can avoid mistakes that might happen if we’re working from multiple models. Having one model also makes it easier for everyone on the team to stay on the same page, seeing how new elements look alongside the existing structure.

What are the principal advantages of using a single building information model of the existing conditions as the foundation for modeling several proposed design alternatives for a portion of the building?

Using one model for multiple design alternatives means every option is based on the same accurate information, so it’s easy to compare them. This also makes sure that any updates to the existing conditions automatically show up in each alternative, keeping everything consistent. Plus, it’s simpler to share different ideas with the client and team without needing to switch between separate models. Separate models would require updating each one individually, which wastes time and increases the chances of errors.
