What sort of complexities are introduced when you construct a building complex in phases?
Completing the construction of a building in phases allows us to maintain some operability within an area while constructing new parts. This is especially important in places like airports where the space’s function cannot be replaced by a reasonable alternative and must remain operable during construction. However, deciding which parts of the building can function without others can be extremely difficult. Additionally, planning for future extensions can be difficult since it is hard to anticipate what your future needs might be within a space and what the budget or materials available might look like.
What are the principal advantages of using a single building information model of the existing conditions as the foundation for modeling several proposed design alternatives for a portion of the building?
This allows us to integrate elements of each design together as we receive feedback from people involved in the process such as clients and other designers. Additionally, this ensures consistency and accuracy in dimensions and discrepancies not related to the design. Lastly, it might decrease efforts needed to complete modeling ideas since parts aren’t being remodeled over and over again.
