Why do different teams of designers and subcontractors link and share their models during the design process?

What are the advantages of linking models?

Are there any disadvantages to linking models?

How do you think design coordination was done before we started using digital models?

It was most likely done by hand using physical blueprints and using geometry and proportions to ensure that manual renderings were still exact and could be used to plan.

What strategies can design teams use to find and avoid clashes prior to the start of construction?

They can link the models to make sure everything matches up and will work cohesively between structural and architectural designs. You can have a coordination model where both models interact and computer systems can help to detect where changes need to be made.

At what point in the project development process should design coordination start?

Is it ever too early?
