What types of building information are best portrayed in 3D views?

  • Which stakeholders require 2D views, and why?

3D views are best for showing the overall design, layout, and aesthetic of a building because they give a realistic perspective, making it easier for clients to visualize the final product. Clients can understand how spaces will look and feel, which helps them make decisions about design elements and materials. On the other hand, contractors and others involved in construction rely more on 2D views like floor plans, elevations, and sections because these provide precise measurements, technical details, and clear instructions needed for building the structure accurately.

Give examples of how the building information for a specific location in the project needs to be filtered for different audiences and purposes?

Should your design ideas always be conveyed through photorealistic renders?

  • How does the level of detail in the rendering and its presentation affect the perception of stakeholders reviewing your design?

Design ideas don’t always need to be conveyed through photorealistic renders. While photorealistic renders are great for showing clients what the finished building will look like, helping them visualize materials, lighting, and overall atmosphere, they’re not always necessary for everyone involved. For people like contractors and engineers, detailed technical drawings that show measurements, space, and layout are more important because they need exact information to build accurately. The level of detail in a rendering can also affect how stakeholders perceive the design—if it’s too detailed early on, people might think the design is final and hard to change, even though it might still be evolving. A simpler, less detailed presentation can make it easier for stakeholders to give feedback and focus on important aspects like layout and function instead of getting caught up in finishes and decorations.

Name some applications where viewing the building and model information in virtual reality or augmented reality would be most beneficial?

  • Are there advantages to using a C.A.V.E as a virtual environment versus VR headsets?

How can schedule views be used to assist with procurement and model-based estimating?

Schedule views can be really helpful for procurement and model-based estimating because they show all the materials, quantities, and timelines needed for the project in an organized way. With these views, teams can easily see what materials need to be ordered and when they need to be on-site, helping avoid delays and making sure everything arrives on time. This also helps with estimating costs since schedule views connect to the 3D model, giving a clear idea of how much of each material is required.
