Which types of structural framing systems and materials are most commonly used in the US for residences? For office buildings?

What factors determine why these are the most used materials?

Wood framings are most commonly used for residence as they are more cost effective, high availability and more easy to construct. Steel and concrete framings are commonly used for office buildings as they have greater strength and fire resistance.

Why do different teams of designers and subcontractors link and share their models during the design process?

What are the advantages of linking models?

Are there any disadvantages to linking models?

Linking and sharing models between designers and subcontractors can enhance collaborations and efficiency to reduce time and communication gaps.

Disadvantages can be the complexity in management as there can be overwriting or overlapping details which may increase workload.

How do you think design coordination was done before we started using digital models?

What advantages does doing this coordination digitally have over previous methods?

Before the use of digital models, design coordination was done with paper drawings. Designers overlaps drawings on a light table to identify any differences and discrepancies.

Digital coordination helps to make design process more effective and accurate, and much easy to detect detailed discrepancies.

What strategies can design teams use to find and avoid clashes prior to the start of construction?

What can be done besides sharing the models digitally?

At what point in the project development process should design coordination start?

Is it ever too early?
