I think this image captures the essence of the whole assignment. In here we can see the grayed area, refering to the existing building, the new modern design in color, with a more creative roof and an expanded rooftop that interconnects past and present in an effective, yet harmonious way.
We can also observe how, in order to create this fascinating rooftop, home of counteless new interdepartamental happy hours, we need to demolish some of the columns and existing walls (in red). But we quickly replace this with modern finishes for a spectacular new looking rooftop.
It is key to mention that right now, as we learned in Catherine’s Wolf lesson, when previously we mentioned “demolish” we didn’t actually demolish the red-highlighted aspects of our drawing, we actually followed Catherine’s insights and through selective diassembly in coordination with VDC execution on site, we were able to salvage the columns and wall and now they are in the campus dschool, where they have found a new purpose for them.
