Description

The unique features of the design include a roughly equally-sized bathroom and storage room, with the bathroom accessible only from the outside to maximize privacy in such a small space. For the same reason, the desks are spread far apart from one another.

The bathroom toilet, bathroom sink, and lab sink share opposite sides of the same wall to minimize the amount of plumbing infrastructure needed within the house.

The lab's southern face is covered with glass and an overhang to create ideal passive solar conditions. The overhang extends around the west side of the lab to protect workers from rain as they walk to the bathroom door. Otherwise, the building only has a few small windows to minimize heat loss through these sides of the building.

The roof is slightly sloped southward to make rooftop solar panels more effective at capturing the winter sun, which will generally be to the building's south.
