Description
The proposed field research station is a compact, sustainable structure designed to provide a functional and comfortable workspace for student researchers. Upon entering through the front entrance, visitors are greeted by a spacious main room that integrates three key zones: individual researcher desks, a lab bench with a sink for experiments, and a small conference area for collaborative discussions. Two subrooms—a storage room and an ADA-compliant bathroom—are situated off the main space for convenience and accessibility. The building features a simple one-way sloped roof, designed to maximize the south-facing surface for photovoltaic panel installation. Large operable windows throughout the main room, bathroom, and storage area allow for abundant natural light, passive solar heating, and cross ventilation to maintain thermal comfort. The structure uses a concrete slab for thermal mass and 2x6 wood framing for improved insulation. Overall, the design emphasizes functionality, sustainability, and simplicity in construction.
